If you’re a motorcycle rider, you may already know this, but it is possible to ride your bike during cold winter weather. By preparing your bike and yourself for the icy temps, you can enjoy riding the roads all year round. At Joe’s Auto Sales, we recommend following these tips to make sure you stay warm, dry, and safe while riding this winter season.
Many motorcycles work best in each season except the coldest one — winter. Fluids, like oil and transmission fluid, perform better in warmer weather. Winter temperatures can result in these fluids becoming thicker and running much more slowly through your motorcycle’s engine. If your bike struggles to start in the winter, you may need to replace the engine oil with a thinner one, or you may need a new battery created specifically for cold weather.
Along with making preparations for your motorcycle, you also need to prepare yourself for riding in the cold temps. Riding a motorcycle automatically makes you at risk for cold weather hazards like frostbite and hypothermia. Consider wearing insulated or heavyweight riding clothes, like coats, boots, and gloves. Heated gear and equipment are also available as well as full-face helmets that have anti-fog visors.
While riding a motorcycle can be more difficult during the winter, following these steps will keep you safe and warm.
