Never buy a used car without first taking a test drive. A

3. Get a vehicle history.
You don’t want to assume anyone is trying to take advantage of you, but you need to protect yourself. Ask the dealership or previous owner for a complete history of the vehicle, including general maintenance and so on. It may be worth a few bucks spent to get a report on the car’s history from services like
CARFAX™. All you’ll need to do so is the car’s VIN.
4. Shop at a reputable dealer.
