Ford F-150
Ranking 8.3 on a 10-point scale for overall satisfaction, the Ford F-150 got high marks in safety and in the car critics’ category. The pros for this model were ample space in the back seats as well as good fuel economy. However, reviewers noted that the F-150 base model was…well…very basic. So if you’re looking for a
used truck with more special features, you may need to upgrade or keep looking.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Coming in third place on the list with an overall 8.1 rating (out of 10), the Silverado 1500 got a great score from critics as well as high scores in the areas of safety and performance. If you’re looking for a used truck that has good handling and a strong V8 engine, then look into purchasing a Silverado 1500. However, note that these
used trucks aren’t known for being flashy in appearance, and that the model with the V6 engine does not match the performance of its V8 brother.
Ram 1500
Tied with the Silverado in overall rating, the Ram 1500 does carry its own set of special features. The Ram 1500 got a very high critics rating (9.4 out of 10) and in the area of performance (9.2 out of 10). The positive praise about the Ram 1500 seems to focus on its nice interior, storage bins, and ride quality. However, if you plan to be towing often or want the best in fuel economy from a V6, the Ram 1500 may not be your best bet.
Additionally, as with any
used truck, you need to make sure you do your homework and do a full test drive and inspection of the vehicle.
Forbes recommends, “Even a top-rated model in seemingly good condition can be a lemon in disguise if it’s been abused, has hidden damage or was improperly maintained. That’s why it’s always prudent to have a trusted mechanic carefully inspect any used car or truck under your consideration to get an impartial evaluation of its operating condition.”
